It's Hot! It's August and it's the time of year we all start wishing for cooler weather and forgetting to water our very parched lawns. But have no fear Fall is just around the corner. In fact its not too early to go ahead and add some football themed/fall decor to your doors and porches. It will lift your spirits and remind you that September 1st is not far away and pumpkins will be soon to follow. At this time of year I like to decorate with a more maroon fall color mixed with greenery. It's best to stay away from the orange hues until Oct is officially here and the maroon/red leaf colors tie in nice with the back-to-school, red-apple look. We have already harvested our corn and cut over 1,400 corn stalks to dry and tie into fall decor bundles for front porches. We have hay bales available throughout the year for porch decorating and they are great to feed to the livestock after the season is over. I have seen so many beautiful Milo fields this year with big maroon heads and sunflowers are in abundance right now. Soon you will smell fall in the air and begin to mourn summer. So take advantage of these last few weeks with cold watermelon, swimming and homemade ice-cream. The changing seasons are a true blessing from God. Enjoy each one as they come, but especially FALL!!!

Bella Pumpkin again this year will not be decorating porches or selling pumpkins due to a very heavy calendar of kids events! Blessings!

<![CDATA[It's time to think about Pumpkins!!]]>Fri, 23 Jun 2017 14:13:40 GMThttp://bellapumpkin.com/blog/its-time-to-think-about-pumpkins
That's right! It's already time to start thinking about pumpkins. We have so many pumpkin plants popping up all around and they already have little beauties growing on them. As you discard last year's pumpkins, if you make sure they are in a sunny place and near a natural source of water, then you could easily end up with some very good volunteer pumpkins! It's time for store owners to begin to think about what they would like to order for sale in the fall! Any number of pumpkins can be purchased by the bin and will be delivered to your location at whole-sale prices. And there are so many varieties to choose from as well as gourds. Some squash varieties are also available that most people consider pumpkins and don't forget your cornstalk bundles. There is also a unique opportunity this coming season for entrepreneurs to step forward and begin their own porch and store front decorating business! We will provide the pumpkins to you at wholesale prices and help you gather clients. Contact us through our facebook page for any questions or orders. Until next time, keep thinking orange thoughts and let the bees do their work!

<![CDATA[Sow Many Seeds]]>Fri, 18 Mar 2016 23:36:08 GMThttp://bellapumpkin.com/blog/sow-many-seeds
The first order of seeds have come in and the pumpkin patch, corn/milo patch and cut flower field are being planned out. Planting will start in only a few weeks. My hope is that the historic home and surrounding fields that make up Bella Pumpkin, will be a beautiful sight to anyone visiting or even just passing by. The area needs a lot of work and care but there is so much interest, I think it will be well worth the effort.

<![CDATA[Seed Time]]>Thu, 14 Jan 2016 15:42:02 GMThttp://bellapumpkin.com/blog/seed-time
Its time to select and order seeds to be planted for the 2016 pumpkin season. Each year I receive more and more seed catalogues. I feel like I always see new varieties that I have never heard of which is so exciting. I will need to look through my seed files for any seeds not planted last year and then order what is needed for this year. Along with my pumpkin seeds, I'll also order a few new varieties of corn. I already have my bloody butcher and a nice deep purple ornamental. I hope to add the exciting glass gem seeds as well as a hardy basic variety that will provide very tall thick stalks for my corn bundles. Last year I did not spend enough time with my corn early on, so it failed. I ended up having to buy my corn stalk bundles. Although they were very nice bundles they were very high in price and that was passed on to my customers. This year I hope to have a really large crop of my own and therefore much lower prices. I am moving my pumpkin patch back to its original place. This location is the one that has grown the best pumpkins in the past. I am so excited to get them planted and watch them grow. I just hope we have less trouble with the squash bug this year!!! I plan on planting lots of varieties of pumpkins and any that I don't have or that fail I will be ordering again from Floydada. I'm so excited that my extra varieties come from the same farm that the Dallas Arboretum uses for their fall decorations!
